Introducing NEW services and changes to Services 31 and 45

New Services

Service 311 Ormskirk – Skelmersdale – Wrightington

Service 312 Ormskirk – Burscough – Skelmersdale –Rainford

Utilising funding from HM Government through the Bus Service Improvement Plan Plus Scheme, Lancashire County Council has introduced two new bus routes, amalgamating, and replacing existing Services 312 & 313, to enhance existing provision and create new public transport links within West Lancashire.

New Services 311 & 312 operate between Ormskirk and Skelmersdale, extending through to Wrightington and Rainford, as follows:

Service 311 operates a more direct link between Ormskirk and Wrightington Hospital via Ormskirk Hospital, Lathom, Ashurst, Birch Green, Skelmersdale, Tanhouse, Upholland and Appley Bridge.

Service 312 operates between Ormskirk and Rainford via Burscough, Newburgh, Parbold, Ashurst, Birch Green, Skelmersdale, Upholland and Crawford.

Both routes operate generally every hour during Monday to Saturday daytime across the routes and combined maintain the half hourly frequency through Ashurst and Birch Green.

All areas currently served continue to be served with the new public transport links and frequency enhancements being created these include:

  • direct links serving Ormskirk and Wrightington Hospitals;
  • extra buses between Ormskirk and Burscough;
  • direct links to Ormskirk from many of the eastern parishes and parts of Skelmersdale;
  • a new link to Rainford, via Crawford village, offering onward connection opportunities for though routes to St. Helens.

New Service 312 also serves Rainford High Academy, replacing the dedicated School Service 730 with a regular service, to improve sustainability of the new routes by incorporating the duplicated sections.
