Job Description: PCV Fueller & Shunter Operative – Shifts
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Location: Preston Bus, 221 Deepdale Road, Preston, PR1 6NY
Hours: Working 5 shifts over 7 on a rostered shift pattern 40hrs per week.
Rate of Pay: £12.08 per hour
Holidays: 28 days inclusive of bank Holidays
Main Purpose of role
Replenishing fuel & adblu for all vehicles to ensure they are ready for service.
Parking of vehicles according to depot plan to ensure smooth run out of service.
Ensure all defect cards are returned, and any reported defective vehicles are forwarded to appropriate persons for repair.
Ensuring 100% of vehicles are externally cleaned and presentable for service as per company standard for Preston Bus passengers and drivers.
Assisting the cleaning team with cleaning and maintenance of Preston Bus PCV & ancillary vehicles to the expected standard therefore ensuring all vehicles are ready for service.
To promote vehicle cleanliness being adapted by all that work for the company, for the standards set to be sustainable long term.
Main Duties
Fueller/Shunting Operative duties include but are not limited to;
- Fuelling all vehicles running into depot after service and recording all transactions using the automated electronic fuelling system and/or appropriate paperwork as requested.
- Monitoring and replenishing vehicle Adblu, oil and coolant levels as required using the automated electronic fuelling system and/or appropriate paperwork as requested.
- Externally cleaning all vehicles using the automated bus wash system and recording on appropriate paperwork.
- Parking all vehicles safely and where required as according to the depot garage plan requirements.
- Responsible for daily vehicle garage parking plan
- Vehicle defect cards reconciliation and ensuring they are handed to the appropriate person / location.
- Recording vehicle mileages on a periodic basis and when required.
- Assist with removing all waste including metro newspapers and assisting the cleaning team with ‘Ready for service’ & ‘Deep cleans’ in line with maintenance inspection & MOT cycle plan.
- Undertaking of any ad hoc sanitisation issues and cleaning appropriately.
- Completing all paperwork as instructed accurately and timely
- Responsible for correct disposal off all waste collected.
- Responsible for the preparation of your own equipment and managing safe and secure storage of the equipment. Highlighting to appropriate supervisor and or stores when stock is running low.
- Responsible for ensuring work area is clean and free of hazards/obstructions to minimise the risk of accidents.
- Responsible for reporting any areas of concern to the appropriate person, such as graffiti, broken seats, damaged vehicles, hazards/obstructions in the workshop areas, broken equipment.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required
- Full Driving Licence required but not essential (On site PCV driver training will be provided)
- A professional manner and can-do attitude
- Basic English language, both oral & written
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work as a team
- To be accountable and responsible for your own work
- Cleaning experience is desirable but not essential
