Network Improvements from 2nd September 2024

Following our public consultation held in June and July, we’re making network improvements from Monday 2nd September. These include:

  • New links between west Preston and Royal Preston Hospital and Preston College.
  • More frequent buses for Ingol, Tanterton, Preston Docks and Farringdon Park reinstating the 10 minute service to these areas of the City.
  • Extra journeys to Preston College at the end of the day to provide more capacity.
  • Extended service 6 to James Hall Distribution Centre, reinstating all-day buses on Bluebell Way.
  • New timetables on many services to improve punctuality.

A summary of all services that are changing, along with PDF timetables and route maps are available below.

6 – Preston Bus Station – James Hall Distribution Centre via Deepdale and Brookfield

All journeys are extended to James Hall Distribution Centre. The route will be the same as today between Preston and Red Scar (via Deepdale Road and Brookfield) continuing to James Hall via Bluebell Way.

This will provide a new all-day bus service, seven days per week to the expanding industrial and employment areas along Bluebell Way.

There are minor timetable changes to facilitate this extension, but buses will continue to operate every 15-20 minutes during Monday-Saturday daytime, every 30 minutes during Sunday daytime and less frequently in the evening. The times of evening journeys will also change slightly.

8 – Preston Bus Station – Moor Nook via Ribbleton Lane

16 – Preston Bus Station – Farringdon Park via New Hall Lane

Following the withdrawal of service 100, new service 16 will operate between Preston Bus Station and Farringdon Park via New Hall Lane every 10-20 minutes during the daytime, and less frequently during the evening.

As a result of feedback received during the consultation, there will be additional journeys extended to the Railway Station on weekdays only. At other times, customers wishing to travel beyond the Bus Station to Fishergate and the Railway Station can connect onto other services at the Bus Station.

Journeys on service 16 extending to Preston Rail Station operate at the following times during the week:

From Farringdon Park: 0455, 0525, 0555, 0648, 0705.

Return journeys from Preston Rail Station (stop D) to Farringdon Park: 1714, 1759, 1844, 1914.

Connector 19/20 Larches (19) or Lea (20) – Docks – Portway P&R – Rail & Bus Stations – Deepdale – Royal Preston Hospital

Service 19 will be extended to beyond Preston Bus Station to Larches via Fishergate, Railway Station, Portway P&R and Mariners Way to partially replace withdrawn service 100.

New service 20 will mirror service 19 between Royal Preston Hospital and Ashton, Pedders Lane, before continuing to Lea (Aldfield Avenue).

Each service will operate every 20 minutes during Monday-Friday daytimes, to provide a co-ordinated high-frequency service between Ashton and Royal Preston Hospital via the Railway Station and Portway Park and Ride.

This enhanced level of service provision has the following benefits:

  • More buses to Portway P&R and the docks - from every 15 to every 10 minutes.
  • New links between Portway P&R and the Railway Station to Deepdale Road, Royal Preston Hospital and Preston College.
  • New service linking Lea with the Railway Station and the docks.

Services will operate every 30 minutes on Saturdays (15 minutes combined between Pedders Lane and Royal Preston Hospital). Only service 19 will operate on Evenings and Sundays between Larches and Royal Preston Hospital.

On College Days only, additional journeys will operate from Preston College at 1545 (to Preston Bus Station only) and 1645 (to Larches).

All journeys on service 19/20 will operate via Portway Park and Ride.

23 – Preston Bus Station – Fulwood Asda via Plungington Road, Black Bull Lane and RPH

At all times of the week, there are minor timetable changes to improve punctuality. The general frequency of the service remains unchanged.

On Saturdays, due to low usage, the following journeys will no longer operate:

0530 Preston Bus Station – 0553 Fulwood Asda

0554 Fulwood Asda – 0615 Preston Bus Station.

Alternative journeys are available 30 minutes earlier or 30 minutes later.

31 – Preston Bus Station – Lea via Savick

In order to better match current levels of demand, the service will operate every 30 minutes Monday-Saturday daytimes.

Following requests from local resident groups and elected representatives, we are working with Lancashire County Council to secure parking restrictions in the Lea and Savick areas. This will allow us to reinstate service along Ainsdale Drive, Lea Road, Thorntrees Avenue, Thornpark Drive, Hawthorn Crescent, Parkthorn Road and Campion Drive. As soon as parking restrictions are installed, services will operate via the revised route.

On Saturdays, a new earlier journey from Lea will operate at 0636.

On Sundays, the service will now be operated in partnership with Lancashire County Council, with revised timings to co-ordinate better with other bus services to the Lea area.
