Large funeral to be held in Preston

We have been informed by the police that a large funeral will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday January 15th 2013. The cortège will be made up of two horse drawn hearses, two motor hearses, eight stretch limousines, up to 500 walking mourners followed by a large number of private vehicles.

The cortège will take the following route: Meadow Street, Ringway, Ribbleton Lane, Ribbleton Avenue, Blackpool Road, entering Preston Cemetery via the main gate.

The police say that it is not possible to be give precise timings due to an "out of county" church service and procession prior to travelling to Preston. They have told us the start should be between 14:00 and 17:30 and the cortège is expected to take up to one and a half hours to reach its destination.

Congestion will clearly be widespread both on the route and across the city centre, and this will affect MOST OF OUR SERVICES to a greater or lesser degree. Services using the ringroad near to the prison (19, 19A, 16) and using streets near to Meadow Street (14) are likely to suffer delays. Service 8 to Moor Nook, however, is expected to be particularly badly affected.
